Along with a classic tux jacket, a crisp, white shirt and  a slouchy grey sweat, Leopard print is a style mainstay. Leopard print comes in many different shapes and silhouettes, but not all are created equal. To keep the look youthful, fresh and current , go for luxe fabrics and more classic styles. Trends come and go in a flash, so by choosing  more classic styles you’ll give your leopard pieces closet longevity. Stay away from anything too ruffly, too short (a mid length is super stylish and in my opinion is far more sexy than trying to wear a mini , which has the opposite affect), too lingerie looking, too bodycon, or anything too flimsy, for me the secret of wearing leopard the you are over 50 is to keep the look clean, I am all for a camisole, or a strappy dress, but not in leopard.Worn right, it looks so bloody fabulous, but the wrong style can age you horribly.  I am also an advocate of just one piece of leopard print, it doesn’t have to be clothing, a scarf, shoes , or a bag can really transform a simple tee and jeans combo.

This blazer adds a point of difference to a super casual jeans, tee and sneakers outfit and just gives a little edge and dressiness.

Here are some of my favourite pieces that I’ve found to give you some style inspiration and wear leopard with confidence .

Leopard doesn’t have always be in the classic black and tan combo (I am not a huge fan of black and white though), this shirt from Topshop ($68.00) looks great in a red print. The double breasted button fastening means you can wear it as a lightweight jacket too, giving great versatility. Sling it on over a tank and shorts for those end of summer days and dress up with black pants and heels for night time.

The midi length and bias cut of this skirt from And Other Stories ($89.00) makes it  perfect day to night piece, dress down with a pair of white sneakers and a white tee during the day and dress up with strappy black sandals for night.

Wear this pj style shirt by Three Dots ($165.00) over jeans for casual cool and tucked into black pants for a chic look.Buy a size up from your usual to give it a more slouchy feel, I prefer this style of shirt to be a bit looser fitting.

A classic wrap coat will be  a worthwhile addition to your closet and this one by Cupcakes and Cashmere in faux leopard ($175.00) will be great worn open as a duster too. Wear over a black dress for a modern take on nighttime glam.

A classic leopard blazer is a must have and an easy wardrobe update.  This one by Alysi ($224.00) in a sharp, modern cut  will never go out of style.  In a lightweight fabric, you can wear this year round and layer under a coat in winter.

Buying a faux fur coat or jacket can be a minefield, too cheap and it will look it. You could go down the vintage route, but the cuts can be a little frumpy  on someone older and it will take a dedicated search to find the perfect one, orrrrr……….. you could just buy this fabulous one by Free People ($258.00). With its slightly oversized fit and large front pockets, it’s the perfect length tops go with just about everything.

Add a point of difference with these silk charmeuse track style pants ($295.00) by ATM (Anthony Thomas Melillo). Wear with a white silky shirt and black suede pumps for understated glamour.

A mid heel pump takes you from day to night with ease and looks great with dresses, skirts and jeans, an effortless way to style up your look. These Sophia Webster pumps ($375.00) also come in a higher heel too.

Rixo London make gorgeous dresses that always have impeccable styling and this silk midi dress ($385.00) is no exception. With front button fastening and 3/4 sleeves, its light enough for warmer days with sneakers, but because its more covered, it will take you through to winter. This is the style of dress to go to in a leopard print, gives the perfect youthful edge and you can be as daring as you want with the neckline. The silk gives such a great drape too.

A simple way to inject a bit of leopard is with a scarf. I love the more oversized ones, like this one by Saint Laurent ($495.00) in silk. Drape as you wish, the lightness of the fabric stops it being bulky.

For me, a leopard print fashion feature would be incomplete without paying homage to Dolce and Gabbana.

These sandals in a metallic leopard fabric are worth the investment at $795.00, just under 4′ high, the classic 2 strap style will never date, wear with everything !!!!!

I hope I have given you some animal magic inspiration.

Happy Friday. Max.x
