Fashion is getting faster and faster these days and quite frankly, it’s exhausting. There is almost a desparation  to be “on trend” no matter whether the said “trend” suits you or not. I feel it’s time to take a step back and look at what you really love, as opposed to what you think you must have in order to be relevant, or “fit in.”My ongoing mantra is ‘be youthful, not young”.  Embrace your individual style and personality, wear what looks modern and fresh, without succumbing to “that” jumpsuit, or “that” bag that everybody else has, you are not everybody else, you are you! in some areas, go for quality over quantity, cheaper branded products are never in the greatest  fabrics and can be very aging.Im remember always hearing, “go for classic pieces as you get older” and I used to think, “how boring”, BUT, I’ve come to understand, there is a wealth of cool classics that will keep your style looking fresh, modern, relevant and youthful year after year. These are worth the investment and the maintenance to keep them in good condition, I’m not talking knee length pencil skirts or matronly blouses either, I ‘m all about a white shirt, jeans, black tux jacket and some suede point toe pumps for an effortlessly cool look that is completely ageless.

As we are heading towards autumn, I have picked my top 10 shoes and boots that will keep you stylish season after season , the trick is to not dive into a trend, but pick up some elements of more than one trend.

Let’s start with an absolute classic, the Vans slip on ($60.00) in white. Go for a little point of difference with the perforated leather version. To wear with jeans, smart trousers, or dresses and skirts, these suit everyone.

To complement the slip ons, go for a clean, white, lace up sneaker, these by Axel Arigato ($265.00) are just the right side of chunky to look permanently cool. They always look great with a cropped trouser, or dress.

Keeping the white theme going, these classic slip on horse bit loafers by Gucci ($730.00) are your smarter version of a sneaker, wear with midi dresses for unexpected cool, even on a night out. A black trouser just works with a white loafer perfectly.

Add a point of difference to a  simple, block heel pump by going for haircalf in leopard print. Leopard print NEVER goes out of style and these ones by Loeffler Randall are a  great way to have a little animal magic in your wardrobe, these will always look fresh and modern worn with denim.

An ankle boot that is part western, part Chelsea, like these by Ash ($210.00)  with a point toe and chunky , low heel will see you through trend after trend and always mix in with everything. Go for black suede to give a softer edge.My general rule is go for black suede, or tan leather.

Another perfect boot to have in your style arsenal are these point toe boots with a stiletto heel by Sam Edelman ($85.00, currently on sale), the heel is around 3″ high, so makes them workable for day or night and they give a cool edge to a midi dress. Wear with black (faux) leather pants and a white shirt for an easy glam look.

A simple black suede sandal from Stuart Weitzman ($455.00) with a low heel and a metal trim takes you from. day to night easily, the heel is supportive enough to be comfortable worn all day.

Nude patent is a worthwhile wardrobe investment and these strappy “Ivette’ sandals by Jimmy Choo ($795.00) might not be an everyday piece, but you will get your wear out of these leg lengthening , neutral beauties, the patent finish makes them wearable wedding, dinners, or a casual party.

These metallic “nudistsong” sandals by Stuart Weitzman ($425.00)  are not quite silver, not quite gold, which means they have got your metallic needs covered.  The simple 2 strap design with never be out of style. Wear with your glitziest outfits, or amp up an easy outfit. Try wearing a casual grey sweatshirt, half tucked in to jeans and add these to give a cool, evening look.

Finally, a black suede point toe pump is a necessity, classic, but they add instant luxe to any outfit.  The master, Manolo Blahnik came up with the BB pump, named after Brigitte Bardot ($625.00). To me they are sheer perfection and despite the height, they are incredibly comfortable to wear. Forever chic, they will be a favourite staple to work into all your outfits.

Put your best foot forward and keep crushing those ageist style boundaries.
