Summer is fast approaching and it’s time to find a flattering, easy to wear pair of shorts. When I was younger, it was any style goes, but there is a fine line to be drawn now I am older. I know some women think that their short wearing days are well and truly over, BUT, it’s not true! i certainly don’t see being the age I am now a barrier to certain styles. There is a way to wear things and keep that youthful edge.
My personal take on shorts now is to wear a more tailored style, patterned or plain and dress them up a little. I do still have a few pairs of great beach / holiday shorts, but for daytime chic, it’s a sleeker style I go for. A 4″ or 5″ short isn’t too short and works with shirts, blouses, or tees and tanks. The beauty of this style too, is that there is a great cut out there for you, whatever your budget. GAP, Banana Republic and Jcrew have a fantastic range of shorts in a myriad of prints and colours at great prices. My go to for a great print short is Trina Turk, beautifully eclectic patterns give that fabulous Palm Springs style and feel.
These black short were from Gap and I sometimes buy one size up, so they sit a bit lower and are looser on the leg, I don’t like them to be tight around my thighs and it also gives a slimming effect when the cut is a little wider. Mixing the black with white and tan is a fresh and modern way to bring these black shorts to life. A light silk jacket like this one finishes the look and adds style kudos.
A flat gladiator style sandal keeps everything current without being frumpy or “young”, perfect those rooftop soirees!
A tailored short is chic enough to “do” lunch at CECCONIS ( www.cecconiswesthollywood.com), or meet for drinks on the rooftop at The Ace Hotel (www.acehotel.com/losangeles ). Where will you wear yours?
