It’s that time of year when the sun is heating things up and we start thinking about what to wear for those poolside cocktails , or an afternoon at the beach. Summer vacation time is just around the corner and whether you are staying at home or heading off an adventure, chances are your thoughts have turned to the sometimes tricky business of finding a great fitting swimsuit, or bikini. Our bodies naturally change as we get ever more fabulous and I, for one, know that those little triangles of fabric won’t cut it anymore! That’s not to say you should cover yourself from head to toe, there are some gorgeous and quite frankly, sexy (more subtle than overt) options available that will make the most of your best bits and skirt around the bits you would rather remained undercover.
I’ve rounded up 10 of the best options that will work for nearly every body type and take care of hoe much you want to reveal, because the last thing you want whilst lazing in the sunshine is to be self conscious.
The way this op art style print plays out on the top and bottom of this bikini gives a slimming look. The tie back top is just really easy to wear and the high waist bottoms are great for disguising the tummy area, the slightly higher cut leg is so elongating too (many high waist bottoms often have a boyish cut which can accentuate your widest part and have a shortening effect , we want long and lean). Made in the USA from recycled polyester, the 22% spandex content means won’t lose their shape and do that “ride up” thing every time we move! The fabric also has an SPF of 50, so its a win win on all fronts.
Top – $140.00
Bottoms – $145.00
Seafolly have always been a go to for well made, well fitting swimwear. A bustier top with underwiring keeps everything shipshape and “up”, perfect if you like to go without straps (it comes with a detachable strap), this top also has boning and gripper tap, so isn’t going anywhere! The hipster fit bottoms give medium coverage, but there is a high waist and Brazilian cut version available to match the top too.
Top – $102.00
Bottoms – $72.00
The angles of the stripes on this Robin Piccone bikini are so flattering and the bottoms give a fabulous “lifted” look for a peachy derriere and are slimming at the front. The top, although a triangle shape, has more support with the wider band. This is a great 2 piece if you want to wear a bikini, but would like to be a little more covered. The black and white design has metallic thread running through it for added poolside glam.
Top – $98.00
Bottom – $78.00
For the more body confident, this underwired bikini by The Bikini Lab is perfect. An underwired top is a great alternative to a triangle top, there’s much more support. Teamed with the cinch back hipster bottoms, this muted stripe design is a beach day winner.
Top – $36.00
Bottoms – $32.00
A more voluptuous figure? Freya is your go to. You buy by band and cup size (from a D to a HH are available). The New Native plunge top is in a gorgeous summery print and the underwiring and wider straps will mean the only spills to worry about will be from the strawberry daiquiri you’re sipping poolside! Team with the tie side Rio bottoms( there is also a fuller fit bottom available)and lounge away.
Top – $55.00
Bottoms – $39.00
Ruching is a girls best friend and this La blanca swimsuit comes with a built in tummy toner too. The higher cut leg is an elongating dream and it comes with sewn in cups and a removable strap. I’ve shown it in fuchsia, but it comes in 7 different colours and for the price, it would be worth getting more than one. Definitely designer style without the designer price tag.
Swimsuit – $109.00
Go Hollywood poolside glam in this Becca “siren” one piece. The circle lace overlay gives great waist definition and although low cut, the strategically placed straps stop it from being overly revealing and lend just the right amount of sexy. The back is low cut and uber flattering, especially with the narrow ties. Again, that slightly higher cut leg creates length.
Swimsuit – $124.00
The “James” one piece by surf and sports brand O’neill is a winner. The embroidered panels create a waist and the deep, low, narrow back detail elongates, along with the higher cut leg ( can you see a pattern emerging, that higher cut is sooo flattering). This suit also comes with removable bra pads. The slate grey floral print is pretty and feminine without being too ditsy and “young”.
Swimsuit – $71.99
A simple halterneck shape elevated in style with laser cut eyelet fabric and tassel ties at the neck. This JCrew one piece is more flattering than you might first think. The deep V at the front creates length and because it draws down at the sides, it creates a waist too. That low back is also perfect for elongating and you can see how it curves around at the waist. Simple , but effective.
Swimsuit – $118.00
Gottex has been around since 1956, so they know a thing or two about making amazing swimwear. This lace overlay swimsuit just oozes summer glam. Those semi sheer panels are giving great waist and the deep V back is incredibly slimming and lengthening and by now you know the deal, that higher cut leg!!!! The adjustable straps mean you can get the perfect fit for you.
Swimsuit – $118.00
