Each season designers send their heavenly (and sometimes not so heavenly) creations down the catwalks of New York, London, Milan and Paris, but along with these beautifully created pieces comes the inevitable hefty price tag. There is a lot to be said for buying quality over quantity, especially when you are in the 5-0 and beyond club, the luxe nature of the fabrics used are very forgiving and this is an important tool in maintaining a youthful vibe and not being “aged” by inferior fabrics, some of which hug in all the places you really don’t need a hug! However, it is possible to find comparable quality without the expensive price tag.
We also live in a much faster moving world now and although “fast fashion” is the norm, it’s not always a good thing , you can become “dated” just when you thought you’d got that trend nailed.
The idea of the Style Savvy Series came about as a way of showcasing whats out there at
A. An affordable price.
B. Made from fabrics and materials that lead towards a more luxe look and keep your look modern, fresh and current without jumping headfirst into any and every trend going.
C. Pieces that will see you through more than one minute and that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, so a definite case of more bang for your buck!
As I help clients decipher their own “ageless” style, I don’t shop at stores catering to this demographic either, I prefer the slightly edgier cuts and styles from stores that don’t necessarily cater to the fabulous generation.Don’t be put off by the model in their campaigns, theres room for everyone, no matter what “number” they are, to enjoy what these stores have to offer.
For the first Style Savvy Series, I’ve rounded up 5 of the best midi dresses and shoes to wear with them to give you a cool style that is youthful, not “young”
Wear this floral dress from Mango ($59.99) with a skinny polo neck over denim for now and when the weather heats up, ditch the polo, unbutton as low as you dare and because red and pink is a thing, wear with these fabulous suede mules from Topshop ($120.00). The beauty of a button through dress are the myriad of style options that come with it. You could even wear a crisp white shirt underneath.

This black and white stripe cotton shirtdress by COS ($125.00) is the perfect length and I love the deep cuff detail too. Again, wear unbuttoned with a polo underneath and over pants or denim, a look I love in particular ,is to wear with a white tank tucked into denim and have the shirtdress unbuttoned from the waist down, it gives a modern vibe to the outfit. You could keep things monochromatic and opt for white or black shoes, but why not add a splash of color and go with these gorgeous pink satin flat mules by Mango ($59.99), perfect with stripes.

This kimono style dress from Topshop ($115.00) is a great all rounder, the full sleeves and low neckline (but not too low) make it perfect for wearing here, there and everywhere. The snakeskin ring mules from Massimo Dutti ($120.00) make it just a little off kilter and give an edge to the wallpaper florals.

A midi length white dress is a summer staple and this one by Mango ($119.99) is a worthwhile buy. The slightly fitted waistline and A-line skirt give a great shape and the low neckline with nautical style knot tie is an incredibly flattering shape. It’ll be a definite workhorse and will take you from day to night and to any unexpected soirees. Add a different dimension with these architectural, heeled mules, in lilac suede by Jeffrey Campbell ($129.95)

The tropical bird print softens the bright orange of this Warehouse dress ($123.00) with asymmetric hemline and the black side tie of the wrap style front gives contrast. Wear with these edgy western style slingback from Office Shoes ($176.00) to toughen up the look.
