There is nothing quite like the sumptuousness of a silk and lace camisole. Once hidden from view as lingerie only, this versatile little slip of a top can add serious style to the most simplest of outfits and give you that cool, yet chic, youthful look so easily. I first fell in love with the idea of wearing a cami to be seen in my early 20’s and my love affair with silk and lace has continued, there is always a space in my closet for a new colourway. It’s a great way to be dressed without looking too “try hard” and gives a feminine edge to a more mannish trouser.

Plaid pants (from Topshop) are softened with this dark grey silk camisole with contrast lace trim. A youthful look that look great on everyone. Wear with a loose silk jacket or tuxedo for more coverage.

Raw hem denim and a silk camisole are perfect partners for a laidback dressed up, dressed down look. Heels give the whole look added nighttime glam. Jewellery is kept to a minimum, the lace is embellishment enough and can be overpowered with a necklace.

Here are 3 of my favourite silk and lace camisoles and ideas on how to wear them.

Goldhawk make the most beautiful silk pieces and this lace trimmed camisole ($169.00) comes in a myriad of colours, but I like the toughness of this dark olive with black trim option. I’ve teamed it with these PJ style tropical print trousers from Topshop ($90.00) to give it a softer, laid-back vibe. Wear the cami tucked in. The gold mules from Sigerson Morrison ($395.00) make this a perfect look for day to night. I always feel a wide leg pant like this looks great with flats over heels.

This pale pink cami from Cami NYC has a sporty racer back ($158.00.) The contrast darker pink lace trim brings the out the softer side of mannish plaid trousers from And Other Stories ($95.00). Wear with candy pink heels from Stuart Weitzman ($545.00), the gemstone fringing is removable, which makes them perfect for day or nighttime glitz.

Keep these “Mom” jeans from Gap ($42.00) from being anything but “Mumsy” by wearing this lace trim cami by Free People ($58.00) tucked in. Turn up the hems a couple of times and add some showstopper heels, like these polka dot jewel trimmed ones by Schutz ($240.00) to complete the look and give an easy glam vibe.
