Aah kitten heels, that easy to wear, easy to walk in addition to your style arsenal. Low enough to happily trot around in all day, yet glam enough to wear for evening, this is the heel I have gravitated towards since my teenage days of tight minis and all mod revival 60’s in the late 70’s and early 80’s, to the indie music, new romantic, big haired and rara skirt wearing days of the mid 80’s. Back then, it was such a sophisticated shoe to be seen wearing and was almost always worn with skirts. Fast forward to now and the slingback kitten heel is about to take centre stage once more, only this time we have left our teenage years firmly behind us. So, how to wear this style shoe without looking either “much too young” (one of my favorite Specials tracks by the way), or much too frumpy. For me, the most youthful and modern way to wear them is with pants or denim. This style can be a little rigid and a bit too “librarian” when worn with skirts (although a ballerina length midi in a fuller style can work when worn with a simple tee), pants will give them that “cool edge”. Choose a wide leg, straight cut, or jogger, BUT always go for a cropped length and steer away from skinny fits, which look more flattering with a slinky, higher heeled sandal or point toe pump.
I have hunted down 5 of the best slingback kitten heels and the pants that will make them zing.
Pair these white leather Lia slingbacks by Tibi ($425.00) with some luxe silk woven joggers by ATM ($275.00). The V cut vamp of the shoe will elongate and creates great proportions with the slimmer leg of the pants.

Slightly higher than other kitten heels, but wearable nonetheless, are these gorgeous” Yasling’ Navy satin shoes by Christian Louboutin ($795.00). The colour gives a fresh feel and modern look to a bow front slingback and works perfectly with these silk, cropped, wide leg pants by Jcrew ($138.00).

As modern as a slingback, kitten heel can get, these Balenciaga shoes ($795.00) are a perfect partner to some COS selvedge denim ($81.00). With a low cut vamp ,knife point toe and in a beautiful Emerald Green, these shoes will add serious style kudos to pants and denim. They are also my firm favourite to look youthful and chic with a midi skirt.

All you need to complete these outfits is a simple tee and a great blazer.
