Taking the Pyjama Shirt out of the Bedroom
Once confined to a life indoors, the pyjama shirt has claimed it’s place on the street. A little edgier than its blousy counterparts, this is a style that can be both feminine and masculine at the same time. A truly versatile piece, worn alone, or as a jacket over a tee or cami, this is such an easy shape to dress up or down. The slightly boxy cut looks great over pants, jeans or shorts. Worn tucked into a longer length skirt with heels, it’s a different approach to a glam night time look.
Such beautiful colours and a gorgeous oriental style print gives this shirt some WOW factor. The 3/4 sleeve is a perfect length for showing off a bangle stack.

No feature about Pyjama style would be complete without a nod to F.R.S ( For Restless Sleepers). It’s hard to choose between all the beautiful prints on offer, but this one caught my eye with its slightly different styling. Part pyjama shirt, part safari jacket, perfect for chilly days with a long sleeve polo neck underneath and the tie belt means it looks great with pants or skirts and gives great waist!

“Life is Beautiful”
I’ve never camped at a festival, I much prefer to sleep in a comfy bed with a roof above me! But, however you approach it, what you wear is important. Life is Beautiful is held in September in downtown Las Vegas, a fabulous mix of music, art and culture. It’s also rather hot. Part of downtown gets closed off to traffic and as the day goes on , the concrete roads get hotter and hotter.
I’m all about stylish comfort at festivals, whether battling wind ( and rain) back in my native England, or the heat of the desert in Las Vegas.
For Life is Beautiful, my trusty Zara black denim skinnies worn with Converse and a looser style Cami was my outfit of choice for day one. The look was simple, but fresh, modern and stylish. Day 2 of the festival turned out to be quite a few degrees hotter than the previous day, so it was definitely a shorts day. Again, I went for a simple Cami top, Gap shorts and wore my Ash patent slip ons. The hat added a welcome bit of shade for my face. I always take a light long sleeve top of some description that can be tied around the waist and a cross body bag for essentials. It’s no fun having to carry anything around all day. As I get older, uncluttered and unfussy concert dressing is so much easier AND YES, you are never too old to go and see a live band.
ROLL ON NEXT YEAR!!!!
- I think this shirt is going to become a wardrobe staple. The oversized cuff, full sleeve, skinny tie, puff shoulders, pleated back and button fastening lends itself to so many different looks. There are so many gorgeous details.
- To find a shirt this good and for only $98 is a dream come true. The Modern Muse shirt from Free People is a fantastic addition to your wardrobe. There are so many ways to wear it. I chose the black stripe colour way, but I am a bit in love with the Orange dot option too.
- The skinny necktie is an added bonus. Worn here tied loosely around the neck with the shirt unbuttoned quite low.
- A good multitasker is essential and this shirt does it all. Casual, smart or glam, all done effortlessly.
- The shirt is available now. Such a great buy for the new season, how will you style yours? http://www.freepeople.com
“Palm Spring’s birthday’s”
We always say we want to branch out and go and explore the vastness of the US now we live here. BUT, Palm Springs always pulls at our heartstrings and renting a fun, beautiful mid mod pool home is such a perfect way to destress and relax. Yes, it is incredibly hot in the summer, it was 115 degrees during the day, so thanks is given to the super efficient aircon!! We book homes with great shaded spots at this time of year, but nothing beats lazing on a pool float and drifting on the water slathered in a good sunscreen of course!
“Fabulous Las Vegas”
Having married in Vegas at the Little White Wedding Chapel in 2004, Vegas has had a piece of my heart for 12 years now. It really seems to be a ” love it” or “hate it” type of place, but I’ve always seen beyond the gambling, rowdy crowds and gaudiness that some others focus on. For me, Vegas is an architectural masterpiece, I spend my time just walking around and looking at the hotels, their design and decor is truly unbelievable. Even downtown, with its old motels is so picturesque to me. I have been lucky to have stayed in some of the most fabulous hotels on the strip, but even luckier to have a couple of friends who insist we call their house home whenever myself and the husband visit( which is a lot more frequent since we moved to California !). It is such a delight to see and experience the Vegas they grew up in and to enjoy some the places they love to frequent. It’s great to explore the neighbourhoods where they live and for a mid century lover, there are some gorgeous properties ( their Mediterranean retreat included of course!). Decided a little impromptu photoshoot was in order to take in some of the grounds at their property with its soothing atmosphere, a million miles away from the 24/7, on the go strip.
“First time for everything.”
On our recent trip to Palm Springs, my husband thought it would be fun to do a little photoshoot featuring the two ( I couldn’t decide which I liked better, so kept them both!) new dresses that mysteriously made their way into my wardrobe via bergdorfgoodman.com.
I am not a natural in front of the camera at all, so at 49 this was quite the challenge for me, but as I had finally passed my driving test earlier this year ( the realisation that being left handed, I am more suited to American cars and driving on the right), I thought it could be fun.
When we first moved to the States last year, I came up with the idea of becoming a personal shopper/stylist for women of my generation, those who perhaps had lost their way in a fashion sense and needed some guidance to get back their fabulousness. Shops that cater to this age group are not shops I would go in to buy clothes or accessories from. I realised that there is no reason why you can’t be youthful and stylish at any age, it’s just a case of finding the right cut/fit/length. With all this in mind, I have set about establishing myself as a wardrobe consultant for those that want to overhaul their look. I don’t profess to be the ultimate stylist , but I do know how to make something look fresh and cool. My own choice in clothes won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I am not trying to make a clone, it’s just good to show the possibilities. SOOO… off we went, wandering the streets around the Deepwell neighbourhood of Palm Springs and the husband took a few shots!! The object of this is to show that although I am in no way, shape or form, a model, it wasn’t about that, it was about having some fun and wearing a couple of pretty great dresses in the process and as you can see, they are completely different in style. I don’t want women to feel that they are tied to one shape, have fun with your wardrobe and wear what works and feels right for you ( I can help !)
